GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - The Biloxi Bomb Squad has given the "all clear" after being called to investigate a suspicious piece of luggage at the Gulfport Biloxi International Airport Monday afternoon.
Inside the bag, officers found a practice grenade, which was not an explosive device. The airport was never evacuated, and the only flight impacted by the discovery was the one that passenger was set to board. The Sun Country charter flight was delayed for about an hour while the owner of the suitcase was questioned. It's not clear if the person was detained further, or allowed to fly.
Richard Rushing, the operations manager at Gulfport Biloxi International Airport, said it's very rare for a routine security screening like this to delay a flight. He said the piece of luggage in question never even made it to the plane, but wouldn't elaborate on the screening process for security reasons.
