Volunteers needed to place flags at national cemetery

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - You have an opportunity to salute our veterans this holiday weekend. In honor of Memorial Day, the Biloxi National Cemetery is looking for volunteers to help place nearly 20,000 flags on graves at the cemetery.

To volunteer, simply show up at the cemetery Saturday morning at 8 a.m. Volunteers are encouraged to arrive early and utilize available parking at the VA Medical Center parking lot. No parking will be available along Veterans Ave.

Biloxi National Cemetery was established in 1934. The 54-acre facility serves more than 500,000 veterans in Mississippi, Louisiana and Alabama. Veterans are honored with a final resting place and lasting tributes that commemorate their service to our country.

If you are interested in helping but cannot make it Saturday, you can help pick up flags on Tuesday at 8 a.m.
