BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - They are a combination of law enforcer and tourism ambassador. The Harrison County beach patrol is getting ready for a busy summer season. They are tasked with patrolling 26 miles of sand beach in Harrison County.
The primary responsibility of the patrol is enforcing the sand beach rules and regulations. Those rules no glass or dogs allowed on the beach. There are seven deputies assigned to the beach patrol.
Sgt. Glen Powell said the thing he enjoys most is meeting interesting people. During Steve Phillip's ride with the beach patrol, they visited with a group of tourists from Wisconsin. They had attended a conference in New Orleans and made a day trip to Mississippi.
