Southern Miss blasted Old Dominion 17-5 in 7 innings at C-USA Tournament

HATTIESBURG, MS (WLOX) - Southern Miss bounced back under the win column in a big way Wednesday and sophomore Daniel Keating provided plenty of power at the plate for the Golden Eagles.

The Gulfport native blasted his fifth home run of the season in the bottom of the first, a three-run shot and he closed out the game with five RBIs.

Southern Miss (37-18) got swept by FIU over the weekend and need wins to try and secure one of the 16 NCAA host regional sites.

In the bottom of the fifth inning Golden Eagles first baseman Tim Lynch belted a grand slam.  Southern Miss plated 8 runs in the inning.

Old Dominion pitching was no match for the Southern Miss bats.  Jake Sandlin added a solo home run in the sixth inning.

Southern Miss would secure a 17-5 victory in seven innings.

The Golden Eagles return to Pete Taylor Park 4:30 p.m. Thursday facing the FIU-Marshall winner.

The Conference USA Tournament is being played in Hattiesburg.

Rice out slugged Louisiana Tech 13-12 and Florida Atlantic defeated Charlotte 7-5.
