OCEAN SPRINGS, MS (WLOX) - At the end of the day, about two dozen Ocean Springs police officers will be better trained to save their own lives and the lives of others.
A medical training seminar was held at the police department today, sponsored by the Mississippi Coastal Trauma Region.
The officers learned basic medical treatments for traumatic injuries, including the use of tourniquets and how to pack bleeding wounds.
Situations in which the skills might be needed include mass shootings, car accidents and household accidents.
At the end of the class, each officer was given a tourniquet package, courtesy of the coastal trauma region.
All the officers say this new training will better prepare them to deal with potentially life-threatening situations before emergency medical personnel arrive on any scene.
