Arrest Made In Homeless Beating Case

Pascagoula Police say a man wanted for beating four homeless people back in January has been arrested in Florida.

Matthew Barnstable, 22, is being held at a jail in Trenton, Florida awaiting extradition to Pascagoula. Police say he was arrested Tuesday.

Barnstable is one of two men suspected of robbing and beating Paul Huff and four other homeless people at their campsite.

Huff, the only one seriously injured in the attack, received two broken bones and multiple cuts and bruises. He had just started a job and was one week away from being able to afford a place to live.

Huff's story touched the community. Several local businessmen gave him a mobile home, and Northrop Grumman held his pipe fitting job for him. Several area churches also provided him with food and clothes.

Pascagoula Police say it was information from the public that led authorities to Barnstable's location in Florida.
