Police: Woman shot estranged husband while he was holding child

LONG BEACH, MS (WLOX) -

We are learning more details about the shooting that sent a man to the hospital Monday morning. According to Long Beach Police Chief Wayne McDowell, Catherine McCutchan's estranged husband was holding their preschool age child when she shot him.

McDowell said the shooting happened around 10:40 a.m. at a home in the 300 block of White Harbor Rd.

Police tell us McCutchan took the child with her when she fled the scene after the alleged shooting. The child was still with McCutchan when she was arrested by Gulfport police on Hwy. 90 just a short time later.

McCutchan is charged with two counts of aggravated domestic assault. Her bond has been set at $200,000.

McDowell said the man is in stable condition after surgery, and he is recovering. It is still unclear what led to the shooting. The child is currently in the physical custody of a grandparent but the legal custody of the Department of Human Services.
