HARRISON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - It was a packed house at today's Harrison County board meeting, where supervisors revisited the subject of oyster farming.
Despite spoken support from restaurant owners and members of the governor's oyster council, supervisors sided with Henderson Point residents, who strongly oppose the Department of Marine Resources' proposal to locate an oyster operation "between the bridges."
Residents say the operation would impede their view and could lower their property values. After hearing from several speakers on both sides, supervisors voted unanimously to oppose the Henderson Point site.
They also passed a resolution voicing overall support of the DMR and its efforts to create oyster aquaculture opportunities.
