PASCAGOULA, MS (WLOX) - The newest warship built at Ingalls shipyard in Pascagoula will be christened Saturday. LPD 27, the Portland, is the third Navy ship to carry that name.

Ship sponsor Bonnie Amos will do the honors of breaking a bottle of champagne across the bow on Saturday. She is most impressed with the men and women who built this vessel over the past four years. Many are veterans and all have a sense of pride and patriotism in their work.

Ted Waller is a special guest at the christening. He served on a ship named Portland back in World War II.

"This one is much larger than the one I served on," said Waller, as he looked at the impressive new ship.

Waller said Saturday's christening will be a great birthday present, since he turns 93 tomorrow.
