Officials investigating vacant house fire as arson

HARRISON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - Firemen in Harrison and Stone counties were fighting big flames at a vacant home Thursday morning. Now that the flames and hotspots are out, investigators can start working to figure out what sparked the blaze.

Although not all questions have been answered, fire officials are now investigating the incident as arson.

Harrison County Fire Marshal Pat Sullivan says they got a call of a fire near Dan Walker Rd. shortly after 6 a.m. When crews arrived at the scene, flames were shooting out from the roof of a mobile home.

Additional departments were called in to help battle the aggressive fire.

"This morning we had to use mutual aid so we called in McHenry," said Sullivan. "McHenry was the closest tender to back up the Harrison County units with manpower and water supply. We also had the airport crash crew that we work with, CRTC, respond with manpower. This time of the morning when we're transitioning from our volunteers to our full time personnel, we need extra manpower so we call in mutual aid. We'll be looking to try to determine what the cause is. At this time we don't think anybody lived in the trailer."
