MS Education chief: Take no action on transgender bathrooms

JACKSON, MS (WLOX) - Mississippi's Superintendent of Education is planning to go back on her original decision to follow President Barack Obama's transgender bathroom policy.

In a statement released Wednesday morning, Dr. Carey Wright wrote, "Pending a discussion with the Mississippi State Board of Education, I am instructing the Mississippi Department of Education to follow the lead of state leadership and take no action at this time regarding the non-regulatory guidance from the U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Department of Education."

This announcement comes one day after several state lawmakers wrote a letter to Wright asking her to "disregard" the president's public school bathroom edict or resign.
