SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) - You can swim again in waters off of Waveland's beach. The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality lifted the water contact advisory for Waveland Beach from Oak Boulevard to Favre Street.
Water contact advisories remain in effect for Buccaneer State Park Beach from 100 yards west of the sign eastward to 100 yards east of the sign, Long Beach from Oak Gardens Avenue to Girard Avenue, Biloxi West Central Beach from Travia Street east to Iberville Drive, and Pascagoula Beach West from Oliver Street eastward to Westwood Street.
MDEQ warns if you swim in these parts of the Mississippi Sound, the current high bacteria levels mean you have a higher chance of getting sick. The Beach Task Force also advises against swimming within 24 hours of a heavy rainfall in any local waters.
MDEQ will lift the advisories when water samples show that bacteria levels are safe for human contact again.
