Biloxi Shuckers starting pitcher Josh Hader was outstanding against the Lookouts in Chattanooga on Monday night. Hader pitched six solid innings and gave up only 4 hits, walked a batter and struck out 8.
David Hurlbut started the game for the Lookouts and he would go 9 innings, gave up only 2 hits, no runs with 7 strikeouts.
Garrett Cooper went one for four with a double for the Shuckers and teammate Chris McFarland had 1 hit in three trips to the plate and that one hit was a double.
In the bottom of the tenth, Daniel Palka singled home Stuart Turner with an infield base hit and that was the difference in the game. Palka singled off Jed Bradley (3-2, 3.49 ERA) who suffered the loss. He pitched two-thirds of an inning and gave up 2 hits.
Tritan Archer relieved Hader in the 7th inning. He pitched 1.2 innings and gave up 2 hits. Stephen Peterson pitched 1.1 innings. He didn't give up a hit, tossed 3 strikeouts and walked a batter.
Jake Reed (3-1, 5.59 ERA) posted the win for the Lookouts. He pitched the top of the tenth and kept the Shuckers bats silent.
The Shuckers fall to 22-15 but remain atop the Southern League South Division standings by 1/2 game over Pensacola. The Mississippi Braves edged the Blue Wahoos 4-3 in 10 innings Monday night.
The Shuckers and Lookouts clash against Tuesday night at 6:15 in Chattanooga with the final game in the series set for 10:15 Wednesday morning.
