OCEAN SPRINGS, MS (WLOX) - Local law enforcement officers are teaming up with Krispy Kreme Dougnuts in Ocean Springs on Saturday, May 14, for the third year in a row to help raise awareness and funds for the Special Olympics athletes of Mississippi.
Officers from the Ocean Springs and Biloxi Police Departments are participating in the event by hanging out on the roof of the Krispy Kreme store from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., waving and encouraging passers-by to come support a good cause. Special Olympians and volunteers will also be there collecting donations from customers.
This is a part of a nationwide event that Krispy Kreme shops around the country are participating in called Cops on Doughnut Shops and is being held in partnership with the Law Enforcement Torch Run.
South Mississippi's finest hope to raise $1,500 during the event. Customers who donate $5 or more to the cause will get a sweet treat from Krispy Kreme. For generous corporations, organizations, or individuals donating $1,000 or more, Krispy Kreme will give a complimentary doughnut party.
Krispy Kreme Doughnut Corporation and local law enforcement officers have worked together for over 15 years for the annual Cops on Doughnut Shops® program to benefit Special Olympics. Over a million dollars has been collected at these events and those funds have benefited athletes competing in the Special Olympics around the country.
