GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - A Gulfport business is asking for the public's help to track down the people who stole a barbecue grill Monday night.
Shortly before 11 p.m. Monday, surveillance video shows two people driving up in a pickup truck and stealing a grill from the back of St. Joseph Hospice on Broad Avenue, south of Memorial Hospital.
Mark Crowson, executive director of St. Joseph Hospice, a facility that provides peace, comfort and dignity to those facing terminal illnesses.
"It's not the fact of the money of the grill," said Mark Crowson, executive director of St. Joseph Hospice. "It's the fact that they're stealing from a hospice."
The facility provides peace, comfort, and dignity to those facing terminal illness and their loved ones.
"We reach out and touch the seniors and help them as much as we can," said Crowson. "A lot of the seniors don't have food when we go out to feed them. That's the meal they get for that day."
According to Crowson, St. Joseph's feeds anywhere from 600 to 1200 people during their special outings, using the grill to barbecue hamburgers and hot dogs. He hopes someone can help identify the man in the video.
"It was a Chevrolet, "stated Crowson."You'll see the paint is fading on the drivers side door very visibly. It's a four-wheel drive."
Chief William Drechsel of Drex Executive Protection does security for St. Joseph Hospice and has been searching for the truck.
"It takes a special kind of low to do that," said Drechsel. "They had to be checking out the place to take it from this area and this type of facility. We're going to stay on it until we get him."
If you recognize the person in the video or can help identify the truck, please contact Gulfport Police Department at 228-868-5959.
