GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - Nothing is definite, but officials say there's a possibility Chiquita may bring its cargo ships back to the Port of Gulfport.
Port director Jonathan Daniels says his commissioners are open to the idea of Chiquita returning. A second source says relocation talks have been held.
Either way, no deals have been finalized as of yet.
Chiquita announced their relocated to New Orleans in 2014, but kept some business interests in the Gulfport market. Now, employees say they're hearing the banana distributor would like to leave New Orleans and bring its ships - and it's jobs - back to the Port of Gulfport.
No deals have been negotiated, and a potential return to Gulfport is only in the talking stages.
