D'IBERVILLE, MS (WLOX) - After a record-setting year for senior college scholarships at D'Iberville High School, students and staff came together on Thursday to celebrate.
In all, the class of 2016 earned more than $10 million in scholarship offers; the highest in D'Iberville High's history. The high school gym was turned into a festive celebration to honor 120 seniors at the school's first College Academic Signing Day.
The crowd erupted in cheers as the students signed certificates for the college of their choice. Principal Cheryle Broadus says it's important for the entire school to celebrate the seniors' academic achievements.
"I'm proud, I can't express how much pride I have for these students. They have worked so hard. They realize the importance of college," said Cheryle Broadus. "These are our true Warriors. These are our rock stars."
Cooper Ramos received the largest individual scholarship offer - $450,000. Ramos plans to attend the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs after graduating.
"When I got the notification of being accepted, I mean, I freaked out," said Ramos.
The school also recognized the "Big Five"; graduates who received more than $200,000 in offers. The scholarship certificates the students signed will hang in the school rotunda for everyone to see.
