NEW ORLEANS, LA (WLOX) - New Orleans Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis announced Tuesday that the NFL club has signed safety Vonn Bell. He was the Saints second-round draft pick to a four-year contract.
The 21-year-old Bell was the 61st overall pick in this year's NFL Draft out of Ohio State. He appeared in 42 games with 28 starts in three season for the Buckeyes and ended his college career with 176 tackles (116 solo), one sack, nine interceptions, one returned for a touchdown, 24 passes defensed with two fumble recoveries.
The 5-foot-11, 205-pound Roseville, Georgia native was a consensus first-team All-American in 2015 and a Jim Thorpe Award semifinalist after racking u 65 tackles, two interceptions, one returned for a touchdown, 11 passes defensed and one fumble recovery.
In 2014, Bell was an honorable mention All-Big Ten selection and finished second on the team with 92 tackles, one sack, six interceptions, 12 passes defensed and one fumble recovery.
