WAVELAND, MS (WLOX) - A well-known restaurateur is back in his hometown to open a new restaurant.

"Chappy" Chapman recently unveiled "The Rum Kitchen" on Hwy. 90 in Waveland. The look of the place and menu is quite different than what patrons typically find at a Chappy eatery.

"I've kind of re-invented myself. All of my ex-employees run all the restaurants in this town; Trapani's, Steve. They're all ex-Chappy people. So I've got to come up and do a new thing," said Chappy.

If you see Chappy, you'll notice he has done away with his tall, white signature chef's hat.

"Unpretentious food, that's what this is about. You see the look is gone very unpretentious. You come in here anyway you like," explained Chappy.

Though the resultant has a Caribbean theme, Chappy says customers can still indulge in the seafood dishes he's known for; but in a tropical setting.

"All hand-drawn art, tables are painted by hand...hardwood floors. It's got that Caribbean look to it. Lots of TV's 65 inch TV's, seven of them. We can do seven different games at a time." said Chappy.

The restaurant is located on Hwy. 90 in the old K-Mart Shopping Center.
