Priceless Murals Need Help

The City of Ocean Springs is looking for funding sources to help restore the Walter Anderson murals at the downtown Community Center. The colorful creations were painted by the famous artist in the early 1950's. Over the years, portions of the murals have worn away. An art restoration expert recently viewed the works to estimate the cost of restoration.

Margaret Moreland says it will cost around 25 thousand dollars. The city is now considering several grant possibilities to help pay for the project. Restoring the artwork is the latest in a series of improvement projects. The city recently installed new flooring and upgraded rest room facilities at the Community Center.
