SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) -

Thursday the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality lifted six water contact advisories. MDEQ stated water tests show bacteria levels are now safe again for swimming in the waters off of Pass Christian East Beach from Espy Avenue east to Hayden Avenue, Long Beach from Oak Gardens Avenue eastward to Girard Avenue, Gulfport West Beach from Marie Avenue to Camp Avenue, Gulfport Central Beach from Alfonso Drive to Arkansas Avenue, East Courthouse Road Beach from Courthouse Road to Tegarden Road, and Edgewater Beach from Debuys Road east to Edgewater Avenue.

There are still three water contact advisories in effect. They are  for Gulfport Harbor Beach from 20th Avenue eastward to Thornton Avenue, Gulfport East Beach from Tegarden to Anniston Avenue, and Biloxi West Central Beach from Travia Street to Iberville Drive. MDEQ warns if you swim in these parts of the Mississippi Sound, the current high bacteria levels mean you have a higher chance of getting sick.

MDEQ will lift the advisories when water samples show that bacteria levels are safe for human contact again.
