GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - A Gulfport teenager who admitted to shooting and paralyzing an 18 year old has been sentenced to the maximum punishment.
Jabari Thompson, 19, will serve 20 years in prison for the Oct. 11, 2014 shooting.
During a plea hearing, the victim explained to the court that he will never walk again. Additionally, the victim's grandmother told the court that because she must provide full-time care to her grandson, she is no longer able to work.
"Although the young victim will never fully recover from the injuries sustained at the hands of his attacker, the maximum sentence handed down by the Court demonstrates once again that senseless and brutal assaults will be dealt with firmly," said District Attorney Joel Smith.
