A week ago, the Mississippi Gulf Coast was hit hard by flooding rains, as much as 10 inches in some places. The continuous deluge was just too much for the storm drain system to handle.
We saw homes and businesses take on water, we saw streets and highways flooded. And we saw many people in danger. We also saw emergency crews working fast to help those in danger. We also saw neighbors helping neighbors, people racing into harm's way to pull others to safety. It was the worst weather event we have had in years.
We saw South Mississippians do what they always do when people are in need, they help. We commend everyone who literally jumped in to save the day.
