BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Pearl River Central eliminated the West Harrison Hurricanes 1-0 Tuesday night at West Harrison in game three of the Class 5A playoff series. The Blue Devils opened the game with a walk. Mitchell Wesley stepped up to the plate and faced Hurricanes sophomore pitcher Kasey Donaldson. Wesley drove the ball to the left field corner, after a diving attempt to catch the ball was unsuccessful, Zach Rousell, who opened the game with a walk, races all the way to home plate with what turned out to be the winning run.
The Hurricanes threatened a couple of times, but Blue Devils pitcher Cody Miller would get out of the jams and lead his team to victory.
The St. Patrick Fighting Irish completed game two of the Class 3A playoff series at Southeast Lauderdale and dropped a 10-9 decision. St. Patrick would get the win in the third and final deciding playoff game, posting a 4-3 victory to advance to face St. Andrews.
Two-time defending Class 6A Fast Pitch softball state champion Harrison Central needed to win two games on Tuesday after losing 2-1 to Brandon on Monday. Head coach Jimmy Parker watched his team dominate Brandon in Lyman. The Red Rebelettes posted a 9-0 win in game two of the series as Kristen Cade tossed a two-hitter. The Red Rebelettes controlled the third game 7-2 to advance.
St. Martin opened their Class 6A playoff series at Oak Grove Tuesday after game one was postponed by rain on Monday. The Lady Jackets got the job done with a 4-1 victory over the Lady Warriors and can wrap-up the series with a win at home beginning 6 p.m. Wednesday.
The West Harrison Lady Canes were forced to come back in game three of the Class 5A playoffs after losing game two 5-1 to Brookhaven Tuesday afternoon at West Harrison. Senior Katherine Shell of Brookhaven hit a solo home run in the top of the third inning that flew high over the left center field fence. West Harrison would jump out to a 6-2 lead heading into the top of the 7th in the third and final deciding game. Brookhaven would plate two runs and had the bases loaded when West Harrison decided to walk Shell with outs. Lady Canes pitcher Stephanie Necaise would strike out the batter for the third out ending a thrilling 6-4 West Harrison victory. The Lady Canes will travel to Carrier Friday night facing Pearl River Central in game one of the best-of-three series.
Pearl River Central defeated Long Beach 3-2 to advance. The Lady Blue Devils defeated Long Beach 4-3 Monday night.
The Poplarville Lady Hornets face a must-win beginning Wednesday night at home at 5:00. Newton County defeated Poplarville 10-3 in game one of the Class 5A playoff series. The Lady Hornets must win two games on Wednesday to punch their ticket to the next round.
In the Class 3A ranks St. Patrick traveled to Southeast Lauderdale and dropped a 3-1 decision. That means the Lady Irish face a must-win in game one Wednesday at 5 to force a third and final deciding game immediately following game two.
