Gulfport High School hires David Irwin as the Lady Admirals new volleyball coach

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - The Gulfport Admirals began a search for a new volleyball coach four weeks ago after Shelley Williams resigned after 15 seasons.

Admirals athletic director  Bryan Caldwell announced on Friday that David Irwin is the new coach after a thorough search.  His hiring was approved by the Gulfport School District Board of Trustees on April 18.

Irwin coached the Hancock Lady Hawks volleyball team for ten years and captured 7 division titles.  His Lady Hawks won the MHSAA Class III State Championship in 2010 and were state runners-up three times in 2009, 2013 and in 2014.

In 2010 Irwin was named the 2010 Volleyball Coach of the Year by the Mississippi Association of Coaches.
