ST. MARTIN, MS (WLOX) - Power has been restored to St. Martin Middle School. All students are expected to be back at the school by 12:15 p.m.
Singing River Electric crews worked all morning to get power back to the school. SRE spokeswoman Lorri Freeman said lightning heavily damaged a three-phase primary power line during Thursday's storms. Freeman said the outage happened in the afternoon and crews immediately started working to replace the line.
"We had the new power lines installed overnight but then the transformer blew," said St. Martin Schools Assistant Superintendent Dr. Michael Van Winkle.
Van Winkle said students were moved to the high school gym while the power was out.
