In this his third season at the helm of the St. Patrick baseball team, head coach Eddie Burger has guided his Fighting Irish to 14 wins and 6 losses and remain a prime contender for the State title.
The Fighting Irish bats exploded in the dominating 7-1 win over Franklin County Monday night.
Senior Peter Holland belted a double and a two-run homer, his 3rd of the season. Senior infielder Jamie Luzenburg ripped his first homer as the Fighting Irish cruised under the win column. Batting practice has paid off.
Coach Burger said, "During BP we stress to these guys driving the baseball through the gaps. With that approach often times come some home runs. Obviously I would have liked to see that earlier in the year, but to peal right now to start really driving the baseball, I think it is great."
6-2 senior pitcher Blaise Butirich picked up his 4th win in Monday's victory. He carries a 3.44 earned run average.
Butirich is batting over .300 and leads the team in runs batted in. He says the Fighting Irish have grown up.
"We came in here, it was just us as 9th graders and we were terrible, we couldn't do anything. "stated Butirich. "This is our senior year, 11 of us I think and we've all come out here to battle and live another day."
Spencer Sliman leads St. Patrick, batting .470 helping the Fighting Irish achieve a team batting average of .282.
Aaron Broadus, Josh Wood, Chet Rodrigue and Trae Palazzo have all been swinging a big stick, providing more power at the plate.
