PASS CHRISTIAN, MS (WLOX) - Wednesday was a busy day on the seafood docks in Pass Christian. That's because oyster season just reopened on two reef areas. By late Wednesday morning, seafood dealers were busy unloading sacks of oysters from the fishing boats.

"They're looking good," said Darlene Kimball of Kimball's Seafood, when asked about the quality of oysters coming in.

This has been an extremely tough year for oyster fishermen who've been allowed to work the waters less than 20 days, primarily because of wet weather and high river stages. Still, many of the fishermen were anxious to return to the reefs.

"I love the freedom of being on the water," says Rum Phan, as he prepared to unload his sacks of oysters.

Though the season may be extremely limited this year, he says he'll take whatever he can get.
