JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

A grand jury has indicted a Lucedale man on two counts of second-degree murder. Asa Robert Vice, 35, is accused of being behind the wheel during a high-speed crash that killed Brian Walls and Edward Parnell on New Year’s Eve 2014.

Jackson County Sheriff Mike Ezell said a deputy was patrolling Old River Rd. in the early morning hours of Dec. 31, 2014, when a vehicle blew by them heading north.

Ezell said the deputy lost sight of the vehicle, turned around and attempted to close the distance gap.

The deputy found the crash scene about a mile north of the Wade Vancleave Rd. intersection. The vehicle left the roadway in a curve and crashed into a tree line.

Ezell said deputies issued emergency aid until medical personnel arrived, but Walls and Parnell died at the scene. Vice and another passenger were taken to the hospital to be treated for their injuries.

Traffic investigators presented the case to a grand jury earlier this month.
