HANCOCK COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

A preliminary hearing for the Hancock County man charged with capital murder in the death of a toddler has been delayed. Charles Connetti III will now go before a judge on June 7.

The delay will allow time for a more thorough hearing.

Connetti is charged with the death of Maddox Vieregge. Investigators said Maddox was in Connetti’s care when he suffered severe head trauma.

The 15-month-old died at a hospital in New Orleans, LA, on April 2.

According to the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department, Connetti was not Maddox’s biological father, but he acted as the child’s father. He was the boyfriend of Maddox’s mother.

Connetti’s mother, Carmen Connetti, claims Maddox died after he fell out of bed twice, and she maintains her son’s innocence.
