GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -

Gulfport police are searching for the gunmen responsible for a drive-by shooting early Friday morning in North Gulfport off Dedeaux Rd.

Around 1:30 a.m. Jimmy Everett got a wake up call he wasn't expecting.

"There was obviously gunfire coming from this side, and return fire coming from this side," said Everett. "I guess from the drive-by shooters."

When Everett went outside of his home on Gahan Dr. to see what was happening, he discovered his car was filled with bullet holes.

"There was three shots that hit my house, six that hit my car. That's nine, okay," said Everett. "Then two over here at my neighbors, and I think there was another neighbor over here their house got hit. There was a lot of shots fired."

Now, Everett says he'll be reminded of the real-life nightmare every time he gets in his car.

"I reduced my insurance to liability," said Everett. "I don't have full coverage, so I'm going to have to drive around with bullet holes in my car. I can't afford to fix it."

Everett says that at one time, his street was quiet and peaceful. However, that's not the case anymore. Everett says he sees suspicious activity all the time, and is fed up with the violence.

"Young people going around shooting people up, and people just trying to live normal lives get caught up in the cross fire, and it's senseless. It's senseless violence," said Everett.

Gulfport police say the suspected gunmen, though it is not known exactly how many were in the vehicle, were driving a dark SUV.
