BILOXI, MS (Biloxi Shuckers) -
Pitching was the name of the game Thursday night under perfect weather conditions at MGM Park as 2,405 fans watched 23-year-old Wei Chung Wang toss 5 shutout innings for Biloxi.
Wang (2-0, 1.69 ERA) gave up only 2 hits, tossed 5 strikeouts with 2 base on balls. Tristan Archer pitched 2.1 innings. The Blue Wahoos were able to get only 2 hits off Archer and he had a strikeout. Jed Bradley tossed 1 inning of shutout baseball with 2 strikeouts and newly acquired Stephen Kohischeen pitched 0.2 innings and picked up the save. He gave up 1 hit.
Bottom of the third inning Biloxi's Tyrone Taylor provided the big hit for the Shuckers, a solo blast that sailed over the left-center field wall for his first home run and first RBI of the season.
Rookie Davis (2-1, 1.00 ERA) started the game for the Blue Wahoos and suffered his first loss of the season. Davis gave up 4 hits, with 5 strikeouts and the lone run, the Taylor home run.
Alejandro Chacin pitched 1 inning for Pensacola and gave only no hits with 1 strikeout.
The Shuckers were out hit 5 to 4, but got the lone run and pick up win their 11th win against 3 losses.
Biloxi will hit the road for a 5-game series at Trustmark Park beginning 7 p.m. Friday in Pearl facing the Mississippi Braves.
