At first glance, a law to allow worshipers to carry guns in church might seem odd. After all a church is considered a place of worship; a sanctuary, if you will, from the outside world. But there is evil in the world that neither respects the sanctuary of the home nor even a church.
Nine defenseless people were gunned down in a Charleston South Carolina church last June. We agree with the new law in Mississippi that allows churches to designate members to carry firearms to protect the congregation. What better deterrent for a coward who attacks defenseless people than the prospect that someone will be shooting back.
