JACKSON, MS (WLOX) - The bill that holds the fate of $450 million in development projects passed the state House of Representatives this morning 117-0.
It has now been forwarded to the Senate for a vote.
Rep. Richard Bennett and Sen. Sean Tindell were asked to oversee the passage as written by the Gulfport City Council.
The bill clarifies the Gulfport Redevelopment Commission's authority to oversee long-term leases for such developments as the new aquarium, Centennial Plaza and a $140 million casino project in the Gulfport Harbor. It also clarifies the city's authority over decisions made by the city council.
The bill is now in the Senate's local and private committee. Tindell tells WLOX that the Senate will likely vote on the House bill Sunday or Monday.
We will continue to update this story as it develops.
