Tregnel Thomas and his family were present when the Pascagoula Athletic Foundation announced the 2016 Hall of Fame Class.
Tregnel, better known as Treg, was a stellar running back at Pascagoula High School from 1993 through the 1995 season. He rushed for 3,520 yards and scored 29 touchdowns.
Thomas said, "This has got to be one of the greatest honors of my life. To be recognized not only by your peers, but your home town, a place where you live and dwell. To be respected by those people, by people that were here, that I consider as neighbors, friends and former classmates...that's an awesome honor."
Thomas continued his college football career at Delta State and left as the all-time leading rusher.
"Graduated from Pascagoula High went to Delta State, playing there and using everything that I learned here, the fundamentals, the discipline, "stated Thomas. " It certainly helped me become a better athlete but as a better person."
In 1996, Thomas was honored as the first recipient of the Conerly Trophy, recognizing the top college football player in Mississippi.
He'll be one of 15 to be inducted in the Hall of Fame at the Hilton Garden Inn in Pascagoula on June 18. Tickets for the banquet are $50.
