GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - Family members of 54-year-old Mitchell Weathersby came together for a special fundraiser to honor his legacy.
"Today we're here to raise funds as a fundraiser to be able to offset the funeral costs for my uncle," said Alicia Galloway.
Weathersby was killed in a April 6 shooting at the intersection of Louisiana Ave. and Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. The incident was part of a triple shooting which left two other Gulfport residents wounded.
Mary Darden says the shootings have got to stop.
"I really think it's sad. All the violence, and the black on black on crime, it's really unnecessary," said Darden. "When y'all killing each other, you're not just hurting the victim, but you're also hurting the family as well as your family."
So far, no one has been arrested in the shooting.
"Our family has trust in the Lord, so we know that despite anything that's happening right now justice shall prevail and they will get caught," said Galloway. "And even if they don't get caught, they will reap what they sow."
The Weathersby family says it will continue to raise money and look for answers until the case is solved. The investigation is ongoing.
