HARRISON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - He took a bullet to the head protecting his owners. Today, Leon the pit bull was presented a special commendation from Harrison County Sheriff Troy Peterson.

Theresa and Brickford Lero were both at home the early morning of March 21. That's when armed intruders broke into their home off John Clark Rd.

Theresa and Leon managed to chase off the criminals, but while taking off, the intruders fired several shots. One bullet hit the 3-year-old dog in the head. It went straight through and luckily caused no major damage.

Leon is back on guard again, but his owners hope that's the last time he'll have to chase off the bad guys.
