Deputy shot in Houston father of Biloxi cop

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

WLOX News Now has confirmed a coast police officer is the son of a Houston deputy shot multiple times overnight.

Authorities report Harris County deputy Alden Clopton was shot four times from across the street while standing outside the vehicle of another deputy constable. MORE on the shooting>>http://shout.lt/bwcJv

Alden's son, Todre Clopton, is a police officer for the Biloxi Police Department. Todre talked to us on the phone and said his father was in surgery for 10 hours and is in critical condition. According to Harris County authorities, Alden has three brothers who are also law enforcement officers.

Todre said two of the bullets went straight through his father and his protective vest, and one is still lodged near his heart. He said his father's gall bladder and sections of his small intestine were removed during surgery.

Authorities say Clopton's vest likely saved his life.

A motive for the shooting is unknown. Investigators have not announced any arrests, but officials have said they are questioning a person who matches the suspect's description.

We're working to get more information on this developing story.
