Proposed fireworks-free east beach on Fourth of July

Proposed fireworks-free east beach on Fourth of July

Biloxi city leaders are proposing to make a portion of the beach a fireworks-free zone on the the Fourth of July.

The area closed off to fireworks would be from the corner of Oak St., down to the Small Craft Harbor. Mayor FoFo Gilich wants the area to be closed off to fireworks so people can better enjoy the display the city puts on from Deer Island.

Gilich said “For years our business community, the City of Biloxi and volunteers have presented an outstanding fireworks show over the waterfront between Point Cadet and the Biloxi Small Craft Harbor. This makes the beach between Oak St. and the harbor a natural amphitheater."

People would still be able to shoot off fireworks on the beach from the Small Craft Harbor to Debuys Rd.

Biloxi city leaders want residents to give their input on the proposal via a poll on the front page of the city website
