Family member: Zander showing signs of improvement

JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - The condition of the 3-year-old boy who is fighting for his life after allegedly suffering abuse at the hands of his father is improving, according to a family member.

A relative of Zander Saucier tells us the boy was able to nod his head, slightly open one eye and acknowledge his mother. Zander remains at USA Children's and Women's Hospital in Mobile, AL.

A prayer vigil for Zander will be held tonight from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Nugent United Methodist Church on John Clark Rd. in Gulfport.

The church's Facebook page also shared an update on Zander's condition.

Jackson County Sheriff Mike Ezell said Zander's father, Nathan Blake McCrory, is charged with felony child abuse causing serious bodily harm and manufacturing a controlled substance.

Ezell said deputies started investigating the case after employees at Singing River Hospital reported Zander's injuries were not consistent with a fall down stairs. McCrory reportedly told his mother Zander had fallen down the stairs at his home on Rayford Shumock Rd.

Zander was later airlifted to USA Women's and Children's Hospital.

McCrory is being held at the Jackson County jail without bond.

WLOX News Now will have a reporter at the prayer vigil tonight, and we will continue to update this story as more details become available.
