JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - A prayer vigil will be held Wednesday evening for a boy who is fighting for his life after an alleged case of child abuse. The vigil will be held at Nugent United Methodist Church in Gulfport from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
A family member confirmed the boy's name in Zander Saucier. The Jackson County Sheriff's Department is investigating the case.
Officials tell us the 3-year-old is in critical condition at USA Children's and Women's Hospital in Mobile, AL.
According to investigators, Zander was first taken to Singing River Hospital after he reportedly fell down a flight of stairs at a home on Rayford Shumock Rd.
Sheriff Mike Ezell said Zander's father, Nathan Blake McCrory, took him to his own mother's house after the alleged fall. That's when Zander was taken to the hospital in an ambulance.
Hospital staff determined Zander's injuries were not consistent with a fall, so they contacted the sheriff's department.
Zander was airlifted Monday to the hospital in Mobile.
Officials with the sheriff's department said McCrory, 24, was arrested and charged with felony child abuse causing serious bodily harm and manufacturing a controlled substance. More charges are pending, according to Ezell.
McCrory is being held at the Jackson County jail without bond. His initial court appearance has not been set.
According to the jail docket in Okaloosa County, FL, McCrory was arrested in November 2014 on two counts of battery causing bodily harm-domestic violence.
Ezell said the investigation is still ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to call Investigator Eddie Clark at 228-872-7997.
