JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - The District Attorney's Office for Jackson, George and Greene Counties held a ceremony Monday to build hope for healing for crime victims. The event was at Church on the Rock Pascagoula and honored all victims and their families.
Every year, the event highlights the importance of early intervention and victim services. Those who attended remembered lives lost to crimes with the lighting of candles.
One woman was honored for the courage she showed when standing up to her attacker.
"For me, to put something so personal out there, it's just in hopes to help someone else that's going through the same thing. There's so many people out there going through the same issues," Dawn Franklin said.
District Attorney Tony Lawrence had a message to victims.
"We can try to heal together, and we want them to know we still care even though their case is resolved," said Lawrence.
The DA's office says it has helped resolve more than 100 homicides in the last 12 years.
