GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - The man who was shot to death on Saturday in Gulfport has been identified.
Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove said the victim is 27-year-old Dennis Bunch of Gulfport.
Hargrove said Bunch was pronounced dead at 2:15 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Hospital. His cause of death is listed as a gunshot wound to the chest.
Bunch was shot near the intersection of 31st Street and 24th Avenue.
Deliliah Harris and her husband were eating lunch when they heard gunshots right outside their door.
"After that, we heard someone hollering and then when we heard them hollering. We started coming to the door, and by the time we got to the door, they were like 'he dead in your truck,'" said Harris.
Harris then ran towards the unlocked truck, where she found Bunch clinging to life.
"His eyes were open, and I just got to calling his name and he just got to trying to gasp and I was stuck, just hollering, cause I had never seen anything like that before."
Harris and several others called 911, but Bunch later died at a local hospital. What astounds her the most is what local residents say the incident stemmed from.
"Whatever it was over, It wasn't worth it, taking somebody's life like that. It was over 10 dollars," said Harris.
This marks nearly the 10th shooting in Gulfport since the beginning of 2016. Chief Papania says things have got to change.
"It's under investigation, and hopefully we can get it solved. But again, this isn't solving our problems. We as a community need to start doing things a little bit different. This isn't working."
The shooting is still under investigation.
