GAUTIER, MS (WLOX) -

A huge woods fire in Gautier is now contained. Just hours earlier, the flames were threatening homes between the Riverside subdivision and Timberland Lane. A resident in the area told WLOX News Now that people were evacuating their homes.

Pictures taken from the roof of a two story house show just how close the flames got to the homes in this heavily residential area, just north of Interstate 10, off Martin Bluff Road.

The Gautier Fire Department was assisted by units from the Jackson County Fire Department, and the Forestry Service. Gautier Police were also on the scene, and had to close Martin Bluff Road to traffic for a brief time. That road is now back open.
