PASS CHRISTIAN, MS (WLOX) - A hotel ground breaking in Pass Christian has officials excited about the future of tourism.
After a long dry spell of no hotels in the small city, there are now three on the horizon. The latest is by Jourdan Nicaud, owner of the restaurant Bacchus on the Beach.
On Thursday, Nicaud and other officials broke ground for the new Hotel Pass Christian, a 10-room hotel on Scenic Dr. near Market St..
Just across from Nicaud's restaurant, hotel rooms will range from 600 to 1,200 sq. ft., and the first floor will feature a gym and luxury spa.
The celebration included fellow business owners and city leaders who are seeing this as the missing piece for tourism growth in the city.
"I'm very excited," Nicaud said. "We've been wanting this project for about two years now. It took us a while to get it passed and everything done. We're really pumped for it West Harrison County, Pass Christian. Having this extra area for single-day use is really something we need in this city."
Nicaud, who says the hotel has been a long-term project, hopes to be able to start renting rooms in August.
In January, The Blind Tiger owner Thomas Genin broke ground on his boutique hotel on Davis Ave. In Nov., plans for an 82-room Hampton Inn were announced for the corner of Market and Scenic.
