GAUTIER, MS (WLOX) - Samantha Abell is no longer Gautier's city manager, effective immediately. That was the decision following Tuesday night's city council meeting.
Abell had already announced plans to step down, and council members were set to approve a succession plan Tuesday. But that's not exactly what happened.
Council members denied Abell's request for a secession plan which would make Fire Chief Robert Jones interim city manager. Council members said they want to be the ones to select the city manager. Instead, they decided the city attorney should act as city manager until they appoint one. The attorney said he'd only do it for two weeks.
There's a special meeting set for Thursday at 4pm to make a decision. Abell will get 30 days severance pay.
Abell was hired as city manager in late 2012. Mayor Gollott credits her with helping Gautier revise city policies and procedures, hire its first Human Resources Director as well developing plans for capital improvements and a comprehensive strategic plan for the city's future.
