Decatur, MS - No. 3 Mississippi Gulf Coast Lady Bulldogs dominated No. 4 East Central on Tuesday in Decatur.
The Lady Bulldogs (33-3, 17-3 MACJC) defeated East Central (32-7, 16-6 MACJC) 6-1 in Game 1. Gulf Coast pulled away from East Central with five runs in the eighth inning.
Gulf Coast got the two-game sweep with a decisive 9-2 victory in Game 2.
Gulf Coast head coach Kenneth Long said, "It speaks a lot for our team that we can go on the road and play a solid team and play like we did. "I'm really, really proud of them."
Izzy Werdann had a five RBI day, and Camry Griffith had three base hits in the opener. Deborah Elmore had a big day at the plate in game two with four hits, and Brittany Cooley added three hits.
Nora Keehn scored five hits over the first six innings before Long called on Kaitlin Lee, who got the win in game one and also recorded a victory in game two. Lee improved to 16-1 on the season.
Gulf Coast entertains Mississippi Delta at Ross-Smith Field in Perkinston on Friday. The double-header will begin at 2 p.m.
