HANCOCK COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - Autopsy results just released indicate a Hancock County toddler died from head trauma. Hancock County Sheriff investigators told WLOX News Now the explanation of the head trauma points to abuse.
Those results led to the arrest of Charles Connetti III. Connetti, 25, Kiln, is charged with capital murder in the death of Maddox Vieregge. Investigators said Maddox was in Connetti's care when he was abused. Connetti was arrested late Monday night during a traffic stop.
The 15-month-old boy was airlifted to Oschners in New Orleans last week. He died early Saturday morning from his injuries.
Investigators said Connetti is Maddox's mother's boyfriend. We're told Connetti acted as the boy's father even though he is not the biological father.
The Hancock County Sheriff's Department will hold a news conference later today to detail Connetti's arrest. We'll keep you updated of any developments on this investigation.
