GAUTIER, MS (WLOX) -

Mayor Gordon Gollott has confirmed that Gautier City Manager Samantha Abell is planning to step down.

Abell, who was hired as city manager in late 2012, added an item to Tuesday’s city council agenda asking the council to approve a succession plan.

The plan would move Fire Chief Robert Jones into the position of interim city manager until after the next municipal election.

“I don’t know when she is leaving or where she is going, but I wish her well,” Gollott said. “We are really losing one of the best city managers this city has ever had. It is important to have a succession plan in place.”

Gollott credits Abell with helping Gautier revise city policies and procedures, hire its first human resources director, as well developing plans for capital improvements and a comprehensive strategic plan for the city’s future.
