GAUTIER, MS (WLOX) - There was a scary moment Friday morning at Singing River Academy in Gautier. A "loud boom" rang out when lighting struck a cell tower behind the school during a thunder storm around 9:30 a.m.
Pascagoula-Gautier School District Communications Director Debbie Anglin said after the strike, teachers reported smelling smoke so they moved the sixth grade students to the cafeteria in the fifth grade building as a precaution.
The Gautier Fire Department then came and inspected the sixth grade building and deemed it safe for students to return. Anglin said that they found no damage and all students are safe, accounted for and now back in class.
